My career spans more than 30 years of entrepreneurship and executive management. I’ve started businesses, held executive management positions and advised startups, small and medium-sized businesses, and enterprise-level companies. Along this journey I’ve worn almost every hat in the businessman’s closet; general and operations management, marketing, business development, sales, product development, key account management, financial and accounting – you name it – I’ve probably had a finger in it.

Practical Experience that yields results

During my professional career, I’ve successfully (and not successfully) started companies, held key executive management positions for both private and publicly held companies, been a management consultant, certified business exit planner and podcaster.

As founder and CEO of Colorations, Inc. I successfully started and built the company to a position of prominence in the international market place becoming the second most popular brand besides Crayola and eventually negotiated a profitable sale of the company.

As Partner and Director of Business at Thinkmojo Inc. I more than doubled sales and helped establish the brand as a leading video marketing agency for technology, Saas and Fintech companies.

As National Director of Marketing & Business Development for WingArt, a leading Chinese consumer art materials OEM, I conceived of and implemented a strategic plan that opened up the entire North American market space in the headwinds of a global recession.

As VP Manufacturing & Innovation at Excelligence Inc. I directed an innovation and manufacturing team that introduced 11 new product lines over three years leading to $100M in recurring revenue.

Throughout his career I have been intimately involved in countless projects that required management of complex and integrated business issues including strategic planning, business & market development, brand management, operations, innovation & change management, sales and client relationships.

Recognized Thought Leadership

As an experienced podcaster, blogger and author, I have been blessed to be recognized as a thought leader in a number of market disciplines such as B2B video marketing, business growth and innovation. In 2011 I began a bi-weekly spot on the popular radio show, Money Matters, in Charleston SC that focused on small business advice. This was quickly followed by the launch of my first podcast and blog, Don’t Get Stuck in Your Business, dedicated to business exit planning and then Build Business Muscle, a podcast focusing on techniques for business growth. I was one of the first podcasters nationwide to champion the local business community through my BizBuzz Charleston podcast. Finally I produced and hosted the Video Marketing 2.0 podcast that dove into all aspects of video marketing; from production to distribution to strategy. Joel has been a guest on other podcasts including The Content Engine and Franchise Euphoria.
